Cory Jobe, Director, Illinois Office of Tourism

Cory Jobe Cory Jobe is responsible for leading the state’s tourism industry marketing and development efforts. Mr. Jobe works in collaboration with tourism industry professionals to promote visitor travel both domestically and internationally, and to help grow the tourism industry throughout the state.

Prior to his appointment by Governor Bruce Rauner in January 2015, Mr. Jobe was the Deputy Chief of Staff for the Illinois Office of the Comptroller from 2011 to 2015. In addition, he serves on the Springfield City Council as the elected alderman of Springfield’s 6th ward, which includes tourism attractions like the Dana Thomas House and the Lincoln Home National Historic Site.

Mr. Jobe served as leader of the Peoples Economic Development Corporation from 2006 to 2010, and as Director of Economic Development for the Illinois State Treasurers Office from 1997 to 2006. Outside of work, Mr. Jobe serves on the board of directors for the Boys and Girls Club of Central Illinois, The Hope Institute for Children and Families, The Phoenix Center and the Springfield Urban League.

 

Dan Lennon, CDME, Director Missouri Division of Tourism

Dan LennonDan Lennon is the Director of the Missouri Division of Tourism, bringing more than 20 years of successful strategic tourism marketing and brand management experience in both the private and public sectors in Missouri. He is responsible for shaping a tourism strategy that enhances the image of Missouri and entices more visitors – and the spending and tax revenue they generate — to and within the State.

Dan manages the daily operations of the Division and, working with staff and consultants, leads the development of marketing and public relations programs, manages the implementation of the strategic marketing plan, provides direction for annual domestic, international, and group tour work plans, consults widely with statewide industry partners, and is a frequent speaker on Missouri tourism topics, representing the Division of Tourism at regional and national tourism and economic development conferences on a regular basis.

Prior to becoming Director, Dan served as Deputy Director of Strategic Communications for the Division. From 2003-2013, Dan served as Vice President of Marketing and Public Relations for the Branson Convention & Visitors Bureau, where he directed Branson’s advertising, brand development, publications, website development, and public relations.

A member of the singing Lennon Family, he was also co-producer and featured vocalist in the popular Lennon Brothers Swing Music Show at the Lawrence Welk Resort Theatre in Branson from 1994-2002. A 2006 graduate of the Leadership Missouri Program of the Missouri Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Dan has degrees in English and Applied Linguistics from UCLA. In July 2010, he earned his Certified Destination Marketing Executive designation (CDME), completing an advanced educational program for tourism marketing professionals designed by Destination Marketing Association International (DMAI) and Purdue University by Destination Marketing Association International (DMAI) and Purdue University.

 

Phil Bruno, Professional Speaker, Trainer & Consultant, Treat ‘em Right

Phil has 35 years of world-class attraction management, combined with consulting, training and speaking in the travel, tourism and hospitality industry.  He works with DMOs on community engagement and creating on-brand experiences that routinely exceed guest expectations. Experienced at secret shopping, performance analysis and interviewing, Phil has the ability to immerse himself in a community and quickly ascertain needs.

He has created the industry’s first ever on-line cloud based fully customized e-learning destination awareness and hospitality skills training programs for both large and small cities.

His Articles have been published in Group Tour and ABA’s Courier magazine.  Phil is one of the top speakers in the tourism industry and has spoken at numerous U.S and International travel conferences.

His clients include DMAI, PCMA, MPI, ASAE and ABA with DMOs, CVB Associations and Tourism Associations in 43 states.

A graduate of St. Louis University’s TTT, Travel and Tourism BS, Bruno began his career working for Budweiser – The King of Beers. In nearly two decades, he managed world-class hospitality, tour and gift operations in Florida and New Hampshire progressing to Anheuser-Busch’s Global Headquarters Tour Experience in St. Louis before bringing excellence to Grant’s Farm, the Busch family estate and original Busch Gardens hosting nearly 6k guests per day.

Since 2000, he has been helping DMOs and destinations create programs to increase customers’ and employees’ satisfaction.

 

Gary Harpole, Owner, Harpole’s Heartland Lodge, Pike County, Illinois

Gary HarpoleGary started Harpole’s Heartland Lodge in rural Pike County, Illinois. Heartland has become a destination resort that attracts over 20,000+ annual visitors to Pike County and West Central Illinois. Gary uses the power of the internet to attract guests from all over the world. Heartland’s website receives over 1 million unique visitors annually. Heartland’s two Facebook pages have over 190,000 Likes combined and their e-newsletters go out to over 100,000 email subscribers. Brooke Miller, Social Media Manager, Iowa Economic Development Authority

Brooke MillerAs Social Media Manager for the Iowa Economic Development Authority, Brooke is responsible for the day-to-day management and content creation for 15+ social media profiles; which include social presences for, Business Iowa, Travel Iowa and Iowa Wine and Beer. She also manages the long-term social plans and strategy for the department as well as all social advertising. Brooke grew up in Minnesota, but fell in love with Iowa while attending Drake University and has been an Iowan ever since. Upon graduating from Drake, she took a position with Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield and helped them launch a social media presence as well as create and implement a social media policy before joining IEDA in February of 2012. Brooke lives in the Des Moines area with her husband and won’t apologize for her reality TV addiction.

 

Amy Zeigler, Digital Marketing Manager, Iowa Tourism Office

Amy ZeiglerAs Digital Marketing Manager at the Iowa Tourism Office, Amy is primarily responsible for managing the listings and content on traveliowa.com, which receives one million unique visitors each year. She also assists with email marketing, digital marketing strategies and content creation. Amy loves everything Iowa and grew up on a farm in Northeast Iowa. She earned her bachelor’s degree in corporate communications and media studies from Buena Vista University in Storm Lake and now resides in Clive. She enjoys reading, spending time with her family, of course, traveling Iowa.

 

Robin Hanna, Project Manager, Rural Economic Technical Assistance Center (RETAC) at the Illinois Institute for Rural Affairs 

Robin Hanna head shot pictureRobin Hanna has served as Project Manager of the Rural Economic Technical Assistance Center (RETAC) at the Illinois Institute for Rural Affairs for more than 15 years.  In this capacity, he has conducted more than 250 IMPLAN-based economic impact studies for private and public sector clients. Recent studies have included an analysis of state-wide tourism impacts for the Illinois Association of Snowmobile Clubs.  He is currently working on a study of the economic impacts associated with hunting dog field trials in central Illinois.  Hanna also conducts feasibility and market studies for clients.  Recent studies have focused on lodging, small manufacturing, and senior housing projects.   Hanna holds a Master of Public Administration from Kutztown University of Pennsylvania (1989) and an MA in Political Science from University of Illinois – UIUC (1993).  Hanna is also holds Professional Community and Economic Developer (PCED) certification through Midwest Community Development Institute.

 

Adam Plagge, Executive Director, Fairfield Economic Development Association

Adam PlaggeAs the Executive Director of Fairfield Economic Development Association, Adam leads the non-profit organization dedicated to strengthening Faifield’s economy. He serves on the Area 15, Fairfield Art Walk, and Fairfield Parks and Recreation Boards and is an advisor to the Fairfield CoLab. A graduate of University of Iowa’s M.B.A and Urban Planning program, Mr. Plagge worked at Toyota Financial Services and served in the Peace Corps in Romania prior to moving to Fairfield in 2014.

 

Joshua Schamberger, President, Iowa City/Coralville Area Convention & Visitors Bureau

SchambergerJosh has served as President/CEO of the Iowa City/Coralville Area Convention & Visitors Bureau for the past 14 years.  In this capacity he oversees the destination marketing & community betterment efforts for the greater Iowa City/Coralville area.  He has been recognized twice by the Upper Midwest CVB Association for Bureau Innovation and recognized every year since 2004 by the Corridor Business Journal as one of the 20 most influential Corridor leaders.  He was recognized by the Iowa City Press Citizen as the 2001-2010 Person of the Decade.

Prior to his current position with the Iowa City/Coralville Area CVB, Josh served as the Director of Marketing/Communications for the Cedar Rapids Area Convention & Visitors Bureau.  During his time in Cedar Rapids he co-created the Cedar Rapids Area Cultural Alliance, culturalcorridor.org, and helped spearhead the internationally recognized 2001 Overalls All Over – American Gothic Happening public art program.

Josh grew up in Cuba, Puerto Rico, Florida and San Diego.  He has lived in Iowa since October of 1996.  While attending college in San Diego, he worked for the Garden Fresh Restaurant Corp. and developed marketing partnerships with the San Diego Chargers, San Diego Zoo and the Ruben H. Fleet Space Center.  He resides in Coralville with his wife Jessica and their two boys Garrison and Oliver.
